Air Conditioning

AC Installation Cost in Nairobi & Kenya

Updated August 2026 · Frosten Energy Solutions Engineering Team

AC installation cost varies depending on the type of system, its capacity, brand, pipe or duct run, electrical requirements, drainage, mounting or support requirements, site access, building type, and commissioning. There isn't one number that applies to every job — but the framework below explains what typically drives the price for each system type, and where Frosten can share a verified starting rate.

Split AC

Split AC Installation Cost

From KES 85,000

This is Frosten's Split Air Conditioner Package rate — supply and professional installation of a quality split AC system, including standard installation and commissioning. Wall-mounted split units are the most common single-room cooling option in Kenya, and your final price depends on capacity (BTU/hr), brand, refrigerant pipe run between indoor and outdoor units, electrical connection, condensate drainage, wall or bracket mounting, and site access.

Cassette AC

Cassette AC Installation Cost

Cassette units mount into a suspended ceiling and distribute air in four directions, which adds ceiling and structural requirements on top of a standard split installation. Cost is driven by ceiling grid compatibility and cut-in work, condensate drainage (often requiring a pump if there's no gravity fall), refrigerant and electrical pipework, and commissioning.

Ducted AC

Ducted AC Installation Cost

From KES 180,000

This is Frosten's published starting rate for ducted AC installation in Nairobi, covering a basic single-zone concealed system. Ducted installations add ductwork, grilles and diffusers, concealed piping above the ceiling, zoning and controls, ceiling works, and electrical requirements on top of the indoor/outdoor equipment itself — so the final price depends on the number of zones, duct run and ceiling access. Commissioning and airflow balancing are part of every ducted project.

VRF / VRV

VRF Installation Cost

Projects from KES 450,000

This is Frosten's entry point for VRF/VRV supply, installation, testing and commissioning — not the price of a complete commercial system regardless of size. VRF/VRV systems connect multiple indoor units to one or a small number of outdoor condensing units, so pricing scales with the size and complexity of the building. Cost drivers include outdoor unit selection and capacity, the number and type of indoor units, refrigerant piping and branch/refnet joint requirements, controls and zoning, commissioning, and the overall scale and engineering requirements of the project. Indicative costs vary according to site conditions and equipment selection — final pricing is confirmed after assessing the installation requirements.

Commercial

Commercial HVAC Installation

Commercial installations — VRF for a multi-tenant office, ducted systems for a retail floor, or a packaged rooftop unit for an industrial building — generally require a site survey and engineering assessment before quotation. Building layout, occupancy, electrical infrastructure, structural access for outdoor plant, and integration with existing systems all affect scope and cost in ways a standard price list can't capture. Cost drivers

What Determines AC Installation Cost?

Across every system type, these are the factors that move the price up or down.

Capacity

Larger BTU/hr or TR ratings cost more in equipment and installation labour.

Equipment type

Split, cassette, ducted and VRF have different installation scopes.

Brand

Brand and model selection affects equipment cost and warranty terms.

Indoor units

More zones or rooms mean more indoor units, piping and labour.

Pipe length

Longer copper refrigerant runs need more material and insulation.

Electrical works

New circuits, isolators or distribution board capacity add scope.

Drainage

Gravity drainage is simplest; condensate pumps add cost.

Mounting

Wall brackets, ground stands or structural steel vary by site.

Ductwork

Duct routing, insulation, grilles and diffusers apply to ducted systems.

Ceiling works

Cassette and ducted systems may need ceiling cutting or making good.

Site access

Difficult access or height for outdoor units affects labour time.

Commissioning

Pressure testing, vacuuming and performance checks on every job.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does AC installation cost in Nairobi?

It depends on the system type. Frosten's Split Air Conditioner Package starts from KES 85,000, and ducted AC installation starts from KES 180,000. VRF/VRV projects start from KES 450,000 but scale with building size, so that figure is a starting point rather than a full-project price. Cassette systems vary too widely by capacity, unit count and site conditions for a single figure, so we price those after a short assessment of your space.

What affects AC installation cost in Kenya?

The main drivers are equipment capacity and brand, the number of indoor units, refrigerant pipe or duct length, electrical requirements, drainage, mounting and ceiling works, site access, building type, and commissioning.

Does AC installation include copper piping?

Standard installations include the copper refrigerant piping needed to connect the indoor and outdoor units. Unusually long pipe runs are scoped and priced as part of your quotation.

Does installation include electrical work?

Frosten's installations include the electrical connection between the unit and your isolator or circuit. Where new circuits, distribution board capacity or additional wiring are required, these are scoped and priced as part of the quotation.

How much does VRF installation cost?

Frosten's VRF/VRV projects start from KES 450,000, but this is an entry point, not the price of a complete commercial system regardless of size. VRF/VRV projects range from small multi-split installs to large multi-building systems. Cost depends on outdoor unit capacity, the number and type of indoor units, refrigerant piping and branch/refnet layout, controls, and building type. Commercial VRF installations generally require a site survey before we can confirm a final price.

Does Frosten provide site assessments?

Yes. Frosten carries out site surveys and heat load calculations based on room volume, occupancy, equipment heat and solar gain before recommending equipment and confirming a quotation.

Can Frosten install commercial air conditioning systems?

Yes. Frosten designs, installs and commissions VRF/VRV, ducted and packaged rooftop systems for offices, hotels, retail and industrial buildings across Kenya, in addition to single-zone split and cassette installations.

Need an accurate installation quotation?

Frosten Energy Solutions can assess your requirements and provide a project-specific quotation for your AC installation.
